Website access

1.1 It is not necessary to register with us in order to use most parts of this website. However, particular areas of this website will only be accessible only if you have registered.

Use of website

1.2 This website may be used for your own private purposes and in accordance with these terms and conditions.

1.3 You may print and download material from this website provided that you do not modify or reproduce any content without our prior written consent.

Website uptime

1.4 All reasonable measures are taken by us to ensure that this website is operational all day, every day. However, occasionally technical issues may result in some downtime and accordingly we will not be liable if this website is unavailable at any time.

1.5 Where possible we always try to give advance warning of maintenance issues that may result in website down time but we shall not be obliged to provide such notice.

Visitor provided material

1.6 Any material that a visitor to this website sends or posts to this website shall be considered non-proprietary and non confidential. We shall be entitled to copy, disclose, distribute or use for such other purpose as we deem appropriate all material provided to us, with the exception of personal information, the use of which is covered under our Privacy Policy.

1.7 When using this website you shall not post or send to or from this website any material:

(a) for which you have not obtained all necessary consents;

(b) that is discriminatory, obscene, pornographic, defamatory, liable to incite racial hatred, in breach of confidentiality or privacy, which may cause annoyance or inconvenience to others, which encourages or constitutes conduct that would be deemed a criminal offence, give rise to a civil liability, or otherwise is contrary to the law in the United Kingdom;

(c) which is harmful in nature including, and without limitation, computer viruses, Trojan horses, corrupted data, or other potentially harmful software or data.

1.8 We will fully co-operate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requiring us to disclose the identity or other details of any person posting material to this website in breach of Paragraph 1.7.

1.9 Throughout this website you may find links to third party websites. The provision of a link to such a website does not mean that we endorse that website. If you visit any website via a link on this website you do so at your own risk.

1.12 Whilst we do take all reasonable steps to make sure that the information on this website is up to date and accurate at all times we do not guarantee that all material is accurate and, or up to date.

1.13 All material contained on this website is provided without any or warranty of any kind. You use the material on this website at your own discretion.

Exclusion of liability

1.14 We do not accept liability for any loss or damage that you suffer as a result of using this website.

1.15 Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence which cannot be excluded or under the law of the United Kingdom.


1.16 Your order will be processed and delivered without undue delay, no later than 30 days after your order has been placed.

1.17 Please allow for up to 7 working days for delivery following the dispatch of your order.

Cancellations, returns and refunds

1.18 All customers have the right to cancel their order under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation & Additional Charges) Regulations.

1.19 Your right to cancel an order for goods starts the moment you place your order and ends 14 days from the day you receive your goods.

1.20 To meet the cancellation deadline, please notify us via email or phone about cancelling the order before the cancellation period has expired.

1.21 If you are in possession of the goods you are under the duty to retain them and take reasonable care of them. You must send the goods back to us to our contact address at your own cost (unless we delivered the item to you in error or the item is damaged or defective) as soon as possible once you have cancelled the order.

1.22 We reserve the right to make a charge not exceeding our direct costs of recovering the goods if you do not return the goods or return them at our expense.

1.23 Once you have notified us that you wish to cancel the order, any sum debited to us will be refunded to you as soon as possible and in any event within 14 days of your cancellation.

1.24 You will not have any right to cancel an order for the supply of any of the following goods:

(a) medicinal products or services that are either dispensed on prescription or are available free under an NHS arrangement.

(b) a contract for passenger transport services - such as bus, rail or flight tickets.

(c) the supply of goods or services where prices are dependent upon fluctuations in the financial markets, which are beyond the control of the retailer.

(d) the supply of goods that are made to the customer's specification or are clearly personalised.

(e) the supply of goods that are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly - such as a delivery of fresh flowers or meat.

(f) the supply of newspapers, periodicals or magazines.

(g) the supply of accommodation, transport of goods, vehicle rental services, catering or services related to leisure activities if the contract provides for a specific date or period of performance - for example, hotel bookings, courier services, car hire, restaurant bookings and theatre tickets for specific dates.

1.25 In addition you will lose your right to cancel if you:

(a) unseal goods that are not suitable for return if they are unsealed, due to health protection or hygiene reasons.

(b) unseal audio, video recordings or computer software that were sealed at the time of delivery.

(c) combine goods with other goods after delivery so that they become inseparable.

1.26 Payment.

i. Payment can be made by the secure online system by credit/debit card, echeque, e-invoice or bank transfer (details on request). Cheques or Postal Order payments are accepted and made payable to “P.Downey”.

ii. All prices stated include VAT. Not all prices include delivery costs so check description before ordering. Prices quoted that include delivery & VAT are to UK Mainland Only. Please contact us for delivery to Highlands, Islands and N. Ireland or Europe.

iii. Prices displayed on the website are subject to change without prior notice and the checkout system is updated accordingly. If you order and pay the displayed price, in full online through the checkout system, the order is considered confirmed by STANLEY SmallCraft and the price is then fixed and will not change. This is also the case with deposits paid offline for custom built boats. The final contract price is fixed and the amount of any balance due will not change when it becomes due unless additions are made to the order by the customer.

iv. Orders made offline by phone, post or e-invoice are fixed when payment or deposit is received and confirmed within any time constraints given. No further increase will be added except in case of any further purchase or update to original order.

v. Written email and posted quotes are valid for 28 days from the date on the quote and payment must be arranged or received within this time to secure the price quoted.

vi. Custom Built Boats/Built to Order Boats - You are entering into a contract with us to provide a service - building your boat -  with an end product - a complete boat. Full payment is required on all sales.

a)Offline sales - full payment is required with order. In the event you then wish to cancel is detailed in c) below.

b) Online sales - full payment is required via online sales. In the event you then wish to cancel is detailed in c) below.

c) In the event you wish to cancel and as building normally starts within 24 hours of payment reaching our accounts, we return 20% of the total purchase price and the remainder is returned after the boat is finished and sold or within 3 months of cancellation.

d) In some cases we will allow a minimum 75% deposit with the balance due on completion.

e) We will endeavour to meet all delivery/collection dates given but where we have to use 3rd party suppliers etc we may get delays and in these situations may have to delay the delivery/collection date. We will inform you as soon as we can of any delay involving 3rd party use such as suppliers, couriers etc.

Note!! We send you a photo pack of your finished boat containing between 15 and 30 pictures showing general overall and detailed pictures. However, we would expect you, where possible, to inspect your purchase before payment and this can be arranged by appointment.

vii. Ready for the Water Boats - Pevensey 2.2, Rye Bay 2.2, Winchelsea 2.2, Peasemarsh 10,12,14 Canoe.  You are buying a fully built boat which we have already built to a and finished as per the details. Full payment is required for these boats with the order either via the website or offline payment options as perviously listed.

In the event you wish to cancel full payment is returned on receipt of the boat being returned to us, un-used, undamaged and in as sold condition.

We will endeavour to meet all delivery/collection dates given but where we have to use 3rd party suppliers etc we may get delays and in these situations may have to delay the delivery/collection date. We will inform you as soon as we can of any delay involving 3rd party use such as suppliers, couriers etc.

Viii. Plywood Kits.  Payment is with order for the plywood only or full epoxy kits.

3. Delivery.

Plans - Delivery times are within 2 working days of payment for email plans, 7 working days for posted plans.

Kits & Builder Packs - Delivery times are quoted with order confirmation. However, we often rely on third party delivery to us and therefore, delays may occasionally happen. If this happens, we will inform you immediately.

Custom Built Boats – Delivery times are quoted with order confirmation but there can be occasional unexpected delays. If this happens the customer is informed immediately.

In all cases where we use third party delivery services we cannot be held responsible for their delays. Once an item(s) are delivered to the customer, responsibility for condition of the item(s) passes to the customer. Please check deliveries carefully before accepting and notify us immediately of any damage or shortages and mark any delivery note with those details. Any delivery quoted is to mainland England, Wales and southern Scotland. Please contact us for Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland.

4. Order Cancellation.

Orders may be cancelled by the customer within 7 days of the day following the receipt of the goods. Goods for replacement or refund must be returned within 14 days of customer receipt. Costs of any returns will be paid by the customer except in where stated otherwise below. Any authorised refunds will be paid within 30 days of receipt of the returned item(s). Please refer to all points below for conditions.

i. in all cases, you must contact STANLEY SmallCraft within 7 days of receipt before returning any items.

ii. Plans - plans must be returned in as received condition, in original packaging and un-opened. Note; electronic deliveries cannot be returned for refund due to ease of copying etc. Please be sure before you buy.

iii. Builder Packs & Kits - may be returned and payment refunded if they are returned to STANLEY SmallCraft in as sold condition and must reach us in as sold condition. To avoid any problems we suggest photographing the package before returning and sending a copy to us so the package condition is known.

iv. Boats - may be returned and payment refunded if they are returned to STANLEY SmallCraft in un-used, as sold condition.

v. Damaged Goods – must be notified to STANLEY SmallCraft within 7days of receipt and a replacement or refund will be organised. The customer will not pay the return cost of any damaged items. This does not affect your statutory consumer rights.

vi. Return costs are initially borne by the customer and we will refund reasonable return costs - normally what our courier charges. We also offer to arrange return with you using our normal courier which could reduce return costs.

5. Complaints.

We endeavour to provide the best service we can but if you have a complaint it should be made by email, post or telephone to STANLEY SmallCraft. We take complaints seriously and will try to resolve them on an individual and personal basis as promptly as we can. If you have a complaint please phone us or email your telephone number and, in both cases, we will call you back and discuss your complaint.


1. All courses are subject to availabilty. Prices may change. We reserve the right to cancel or change course dates if the need arises and will refund in full or re-schedule to your choice.

2. On courses where we come to you, we supply all our own food, drink and accomodation. Nothing extra is required.

3. With On Site courses at Stevenage or Northampton, we can arrange accomodation in the local area, subject to availability, if required. There is no charge for this service but you pay for the accomodation.

4. For all courses at both sites a maximum of 2 people working per boat at any one time is allowed due to workspace restrictions on small boats.

5. We can allow a maximum of 4 people to attend at any one time during the course. However, once on location, if the instructor considers this unsafe at any time we reserve the right to reduce the number working at any one time. Larger numbers can be arranged in advance at a suitable location. 

6. Payment. Bookings made earlier than 90 days will be confirmed and a deposit made before 90 days from the course start date of 10% of the course fee. Full payment for all courses must be received no later than 21days prior to start date. Payment must be in full including any pre-arranged extras such as accomodation etc. 

7. Cancellation. Stevenage, Northampton and off-site courses -  If you cancel more than 7 days before the course start date we will refund in full. Less than 7 days notce is subject to a minmum £75 fee including administration fee to cover our costs. If we can re-schedule the course we will do so at no extra fee if more than 7 days notice is given. There may be a fee of a further £30 if less than 7days notice to re-schedule a course.

8. No tools are required on any course days as these are provided. Basic hand tools are used.

9. Prices quoted for off-site mobile courses (where we come to your location) include travel expenses to England and Wales mainland locations. Scotland from the border with England to a line from Greenock in the west to Dundee in the east is subject to a surcharge of £45.00. Areas north of this line, Highlands and all UK Islands will incur a surcharge which is quoted on request.

10. Prices quoted for on site courses at Stevenage and Northampton are for up to 2 people to build the boat. At least one person must be over the age of 21. Up to 4 people may attend a course but a fee of £25 per person per day is charged.

11. We are able to allow children to be brought along if notified with the booking but they must be supervised and will not be allowed in the workshop while electric tools are being used. 

PLANS -  Further information.

Email Plans - IMPORTANT. Due to the nature of the product and the easy copying of the same we cannot offer refunds after purchase so, please be sure before you buy. We can only offer refunds for these items on returned faulty cd/dvd discs (which will be independently checked)  and will re-send items lost in the post. Items can be sent recorded delivery at customer request and after extra costs are paid.

Every effort has been made to ensure that the information given, the design and plans in the manual are as accurate as possible. The plans have been used to build the boat without any need for amendment or change. As you are the builder, the implementation of the methods of building and actual building of the boat as described in the plans manual are beyond our control. Therefore we cannot be held liable for any incidental or consequential damage resulting from the use of the information, building methods, plans or the boat as described in the plans manuals.

Copyright of our plans (including all text and images appearing in this work) is owned by STANLEY SmallCraft, and all rights in relation to all such material are reserved. No material appearing in the works may be modified, reproduced or transmitted in any form or medium (whether known now or not) or by any means without written permission from STANLEY SmallCraft, except for use by end users accessing this work for purely personal, non-commercial purposes and the reproduction on screen or printed off by such persons for the purposes intended by the plans. Written permission must also be obtained from STANLEY SmallCraft before any of this work is stored, copied for anything but the personal use (however temporarily) in a retrieval system of any kind other than as previously stated. THE PLANS ARE NOT FOR RESALE AND ARE NOT TO BE RESOLD OR GIVEN AWAY

Law and jurisdiction

These terms and conditions are governed by English law. Any dispute arising in connection with these terms and conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales.
